He was born in an embarrassingly
named Lancashire town in 1955, where he lived until he was 10 years
old, and then again from 13 years old almost until he was married
in 1977. During that time his father died [when Nigel was 8] and
he became a Christian [when he was
14]. Jan and Nigel have 3 children - Rebecca, Adam and Beth and
3 grand children - Megan, Carys and Lewis.
He was variously [and
continuously] employed in various industries until he 'settled down'
into sales and marketing for the transport and distribution industry.
With three young children and a growing career the family had one
of their famous 'family conferences' where it was decided that the
job needed to be reduced to enable Dad to become part of the family
again.
This happened as they
moved from the south of England to the North East - incidentally
before they arrived Nigel had found a job - sales in the transport
industry! Although the move meant a dramatic drop in salary the
family were very happy. During this period [with all the spare time
Nigel had gained] he began to volunteer at the church young group
[populated by his children as well as others]. That move began a
life change which you see today - full
time youth worker [since 1991].
Late in 1999 Nigel and
his wife Jan moved to Australia to continue his youthwork as Executive
Director of YFC
Geelong-Westcoast. although has since developed into many other
areas.
Coaching and mentoring
have been a part of Nigel's life for many years with formal training
being received from Coach University.
Nigel is also a member of Christian
Coaches.
